Trending: Lab grown diamonds in Washington DC
Due to the growing demand, we recently introduced lab grown diamonds in the Washington DC area as part of our extensive inventory. These diamonds are locally grown in Maryland and offer the same chemical makeup, appearance and quality you’ve come to expect from Mervis Diamond.
That said, we know that there are still a lot of questions surrounding the lab grown option, so we’ve rounded up some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve heard:
Are lab grown diamonds real? Yes! Lab grown diamonds have the same chemical makeup as naturally formed diamonds. We like to use ice as an analogy. Ice cubes formed in your freezer are made up of the same compounds as ice formed naturally on a lake. The only difference is that ice cubes made in your freezer are in a more controlled environment. In turn, freezer ice will have fewer imperfections. But it’s still ice!
How are lab grown diamonds created? Just like all mined diamonds are not the same, not all lab grown diamonds are created equally, either. There are two main methods of producing lab grown diamonds. CDV or chemical vapor deposition and HPHT or high pressure-high temperature. CDV tends to produce better results, so this is what we offer.
How can you tell the difference between a natural diamond vs. a lab grown diamond? Unless you’re a certified gemologist with a heavy-duty microscope, it’s virtually impossible to tell the difference between the two.
How are lab grown diamonds graded? The lab grown diamonds we offer are graded by the International Gemological Institute (IGI). You’ll be given a copy of this report with the purchase of your diamond.
How expensive are they? You can get the same size of a natural diamond for up to 30% less with a lab grown. The larger the diamond, the more of a price reduction you’ll see. And when you purchase a lab grown diamond from Mervis, you are eligible for a 100% lifetime trade up. Trade in your lab grown diamond for a larger lab grown diamond at any time, and just pay the difference in price.
Seeing is believing. We can talk about lab grown diamonds all day, but the best way to decide if they are right for you is to see for yourself!
Stop by or book an appointment today at one of our three stores in Washington, D.C., Rockville, MD, and Tysons, VA. We’ll compare lab grown and natural diamonds side by side and help you pick the perfect one.
